Assessing and evaluating Students' Learning

I think this article is really helpful to teachers of ELA. I am a social studies major so discussions and lecture is a little different than ELA. The way I have always been taught in my Social Studies classes are through PowerPoint and having a teacher stand in front of the class talking the whole time. I really don't know how that could change though. Social Studies is full of facts that have to be spit out for the students to understand.I want to teach History in a different way but I really don't see another option to help students learn. Hopefully by the time I start teaching, I can find different ways of instructing my students.

I love how this article gave examples of other forms of tests. I feel like students do better if they write essays than correct answer tests. Sometimes teachers have multiple answers on their multiple choice tests. That is super frustrating for kids. I feel like there is a time where a multiple choice answer is the best choice to give your kids but for an ELA class, an essay would work better to make sure they are understanding the material. A teacher cannot make sure kids understand theme in a multiple choice test. Assessing kids in ELA by giving them an essay.

I really like peer feedback. Kids learn more from their peers that they can remember because they are can relate to each other. They are able to connect on a level that the teacher might not be able to reach. I want my students to think that reading and learning is fun. Hopefully I can connect with them as a teacher and help them to love reading
